Dear Subscriber,

Greetings from the Chairman
Greetings from the Chairman
Dear Member or Friend of the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

Welcome to MAY!

This month, we have a lot of exciting events and opportunities lined up for all of you. Whether you want to socialize or engage in professional events, there should be something of interest.

We know many of you will attend our charity event on May 8. At this event, you will meet Simon Holliday, the founder of Splash, a local charity organization that teaches people from under-resourced communities to swim. Come and support a great cause and enjoy authentic Danish food. We still have seats left - the more, the merrier, and it is for a good cause.

This month, we also welcome Jesper and Mads, who have volunteered to head up the activities for Danish Young Professionals.

If you work with Digital Innovation and are looking for a peer group, look no further. The Danish Chamber is a member of Eurocham, and our members have the opportunity to join the various business councils. All with the objective to:
  • provide a forum to exchange information and discuss common challenges companies are facing.
  • promoting commercial, industrial, scientific and economic exchange between Hong Kong, Macau, the Greater Bay Area and the rest of Europe.
  • Facilitating networking between stakeholders
  • Advocating for the interests and concerns of our members, facilitating a favorable business environment within the Hong Kong and European markets.

If you want to get your dance moves on, our Swedish colleagues are throwing a massive party at the Hong Kong Observation Wheel on May 11th to celebrate ABBA's 50th anniversary of winning the Eurovision song contest.

In any case, prepare your calendars and pen and start planning for the month of May.

Thank you for your engagement and support,

Yours,

Anita

Danish History & Tradition - The Liberation of Denmark | May 4
Danish History & Tradition - The Liberation of Denmark | May 4
If you go for a walk in the evening on May 4th in Denmark, you will probably notice many homes with candlelight in their windows. The candles are lit to commemorate the liberation of Denmark in 1945 after five years of occupation due to the Second World War.

Denmark received the news of the German’s partial surrender late on the evening of the 4th of May but had to wait until 8.00 am on Saturday 5th, May, for the surrender to become active. Later that same afternoon, the first Allied forces entered Denmark and were greeted by throngs of people celebrating in the streets. When Field Marshal Montgomery came to the capital a week later, the Danes honored him with a victory parade through Copenhagen. The Danes still light candles in their windows every May 4th as a reminder of the five years under German occupation, when Danish towns and cities spent their nights in total darkness.
